Lingtra Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Lingtra (the "App") for Mac and iPad, published by Onur Bulut ("developer", "we"), handles information.

1. In short

  • Lingtra collects no personal data. No account is required.
  • Your documents, translations, translation memory and terms are stored only on your device and are never sent to us. The developer runs no server for this App.
  • There are no ads, analytics or tracking in the App.
  • If you turn on the optional AI suggestions with your own API key, the sentence you are translating and its matching terms are sent directly from your device to the provider you chose (Google Gemini, OpenAI or DeepL) (Section 4).
  • Purchases are processed by Apple (Section 5).

2. Information stored on your device

The following is kept in a local database inside the App's sandbox:

  • a copy of the Word document you open (or, if you opened a PDF, the Word document converted from it), its segmented form and your translations,
  • your translation memory (confirmed source–target pairs) and termbase, kept separately for each language pair,
  • app settings.

This data never leaves your device; converting a PDF to Word also happens on your device. You can delete a project inside the App. On iPad, deleting the App also deletes all of its data. On Mac, to remove everything, delete the App and then the folder ~/Library/Containers/dev.onurbulut.lingtra (macOS does not remove it when an app is moved to the Trash). Your device's own backups (e.g. Time Machine or iCloud device backup) may include this data; that is under your control.

The App only opens files you choose (DOCX, PDF, TMX, CSV, .lingtra) and only saves to locations you choose (DOCX, TMX, CSV, .lingtra).

3. Backups

The “Yedek al” (Create backup) command creates a .lingtra file containing your projects, translation memory and terms. You decide where to keep it (e.g. iCloud Drive, another cloud folder or an external drive); the file is never sent to a server of ours. The terms of the service you store it with apply.

Restoring a backup on another device (Mac or iPad) replaces the local data on that device. Before restoring, the existing data is saved to a separate file on the same device. API keys are not included in backups.

4. AI suggestions with your own key (optional)

This feature is off by default. If you enter your own Google Gemini, OpenAI or DeepL API key in Settings:

  • Your key is stored only on your device, in the system keychain; if the keychain is unavailable, it is kept in the App's local database. Either way it is never sent to us and is not included in backups.
  • When you request a suggestion (or move to a sentence, if you turned on automatic suggestions), only the sentence being translated and your glossary terms that match it are sent directly from your device to the provider you chose. The rest of the document is not sent.
  • This traffic does not pass through us; Lingtra has no server, and we cannot see or store your text.
  • The text is processed under your own agreement with that provider and the provider's own privacy policy. AI usage costs are not included in the Lingtra subscription.

If you do not use this feature, your translation content is never sent anywhere from your device.

5. Purchases

The free version of Lingtra includes every feature for 1 project and 500 terms. Lingtra Pro is an auto-renewing yearly subscription sold through Apple's App Store; it works on Mac and iPad with the same Apple Account. Payment and subscription details are processed by Apple; the developer never sees your card details or identity. The App only receives from Apple whether your subscription is active. 6. This website

lingtra.app is a static site: it uses no cookies, analytics, tracking code or external fonts. The site is served through Cloudflare, which may process technical connection data such as IP addresses under its own policy to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

7. Children

The App is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anyone.

8. Your rights (GDPR / KVKK)

Because we collect no personal data, we hold no records about you to delete, correct or export; all data stays on your device under your control. Requests about text sent to an AI provider can be made to that provider, and requests about purchases to Apple. For questions under the GDPR or Turkey's KVKK (Law No. 6698), contact us.

9. Changes

When we update this policy, we change the "Last updated" date on this page. Material changes (such as any new data processing) will also be announced in the App.
